Over the summer our Park Heritage Walks are back. We will be holding free guided walks for you to enjoy, Each walk takes app. 2 hours with breaks and are suitable for all abilities. Wednesday 1 August: Park Heritage Walk 1, Lister Lane – The Gibbet. Meet at Lister Lane Cemetery, Halifax HX1 5LF. Tour starts at 10.30am. A guided tour by David Glover. Free . The walk will take in views of Crossley House, and travel through People’s Park, the remains of the Halifax work house, West Hill Model Village, The Hanson Lane bomb site, the Almhouses, finishing at the world famous Gibbet. Saturday 18 August: Park Heritage Walk 2, The West Halifax Suffragettes Meet outside Sky DIY on Queen’s Road. Tour starts at 10.30am. A guided tour by David Glover. Free . The walk will take to various locations where some of our local Suffragettes lived. You will travel beyond Park into town centre via Pellon lane to Marlborough Hall (YMCA), where Emmeline Pankhurst spoke. To book tickets click here
Wednesday 22 August: Park Heritage Walk 3, The Old Railroad Walk. Will take you from the old Spire at King Cross ending up at Queen’s Road Neighbourhood Centre ( former primary school. Free guided tour by local historian David Glover. 2pm start, meet at the Old Spire (by one stop) on King Cross Road. The walk does include a fairly steep slope up Queen’s Road, so may not be suitable for all. This walk takes in the sites of the old toffee mill and biscuit factory, also the remain ofthe railroad through Park and forgotten terminus and the murder site of 1889 and The Butler Machine & Tool Factory.
