Local Studies Welcome Day at the new Halifax Central Library!

Friday 8th September 9.30am to 6.30pm, free admission

Start your visit to the newly opened library by picking up a Square Roots heritage leaflet and following a self-guided tour round the building and local sites of historical interest.

The tour ends in the new Local Studies department on the lower ground floor.  Take NewCentralLibraryRoseWindowTinyPNGtime to have a good look round and talk to staff about the resources and services available, including our new digital microfilm scanners.

Ticket availability allowing, you can sit down at 11am for a fascinating hour with the Halifax Great War Heritage Society.  For more information, see  What did the Great War ever do for us?

Between 9.30am and 4pm, Calderdale Family History Society will be waiting to talk to you in The Lab on the ground floor and will be able to show you how the Society can help you research your ancestors. For more information, see Calderdale Family History Society

Alongside the Calderdale Family History Society in The Lab will be one of our library volunteers, eager to show you the online resources available through the library service for help with your research.

At 1pm you can attend a brief talk by local historian and Halifax Antiquarian Society member, David Glover. Meet other members of Halifax Antiquarian Society and have a go at their Hali-facts quiz. You will also be entertained by their vintage Local History film – showing on screens around the library throughout the day, along with First World War footage supplied by the Halifax Great War Heritage Society.

Ticket availability allowing, you will also be able to join an outdoor heritage walk with Anne Kirker at 2pm.  For more information, see Square Roots – Round and about the new central library
