Ravenscliffe High School have combined two Community Events into one day as we push on with the final drive to make Ravenscliffe@SpringHall happen.
On Sunday 12th June Ravenscliffe hosts “A Right Royal Knees Up”; a street party with food and live music in celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday. This event also provides the finishing point for the third annual Big Bike Bash, where a peloton of 30+ students, staff and friends of the school, riding a range of adapted and conventional bikes, aim to complete a 40 mile bike ride across Calderdale, linking sevn of the principal town centres in the Borough.
The ‘Royal Knees Up’ will see the school grounds transformed into a themed garden party with red, white and blue, the colours of the day. Live music outside the Pavilion in the school grounds, will be performed by well known Skipton based band ‘Undercover’, fronted by former Headteacher of Ravenscliffe, Mike Hirst OBE.A range of tickets are available from the school office for the Streetparty, including tickets those with food at £10 adults and £7 children. and tickets at £5 for the music only.
Whilst the crowds soak up the atmosphere at the street party, the cyclists will have been hard at it from 9am Sunday morning. Starting and finishing at Ravenscliffe, the route takes in Elland, Brighouse, Sowerby Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and Halifax on roads and canal tow paths.
We’ll even throw in a lap of the Spring Hall track for good measure!
Both events aim to provide a safe and enjoyable community event which is open to anyone and everyone, as well as raising the profile of the SpringHall project and the final chase for the funding needed to build and equip it.
Since January 2014, the school and its many friends have raised an additional £1.2M to the £1.6M pledged by Calderdale Council. The centre will be situated trackside at Spring Hall , overlooking the finishing line on the home straight. It is hoped that planning permission is now imminent (within June 2016) and the building works will start in the Autumn, with the new Sixth Form and Community Centre opening its doors in September 2017. The last piece of the funding puzzle is to attract the final £380,000 needed to make it a reality.
