Here’s to a Happy Move More New Year!

But what is physical activity and how much do you need to do?

Well, physical activity is anything that makes your heart beat faster and leaves you a little out of breath. Other than that the choice is yours; it’s dancing in the kitchen, raking in the garden, walking while you talk with friends and family, litter picking in your community or a gentle Zoom session. You don’t need an expensive gym membership or fancy lycra outfit, just wear something comfy. Aim for 150 minutes a week, that’s just over 20 minutes a day or two 10 minutes slots.

  • Start small, don’t be put off by doing too much too soon. Anything is better than nothing.
  • Once you decide how you’re going to move more, tell people or invite them to join you, knowing you’re going to be asked how it went is a good motivator.
  • Do what works for you and makes you smile, warming winter walks, Zoom disco dance-off’s, or trampoline with the kids, you don’t need to be good at it, just have fun and enjoy it.
