Girls Group launched at Halifax Academy

Project _Twelve:31 launched a new girls group at The Halifax Academy, Gibbet Street Halifax in September 2019

Being a teenage young woman in the world today is a challenge. Attempts to retain an element of individuality are threatened on a daily basis by the media, celebrity culture, premature sexualisation, peer pressure, bullying and lack of positive, strong female role models.

Project _Twelve looks at developing confidence, self-esteem, and opportunities to aspirations and the programme delivered over 10 sessions aims to ;-

  • Identify issues relating to anger management, relationships, legal rights, responsibilities, risks associated with drugs, alcohol and unprotected sex, healthy living including diet and exercise
  • Peer led but steered by staff to ensure all aims are met
  • Raise confidence and awareness of actions and how they may affect others
  • Build positive relationships within the group
  • Building understanding of the issues faced by the police when dealing with young people and look at ways to break down the barriers
  • Identify risks that target group are likely to be facing and minimise
  • Challenge harmful attitudes and actions
