WINNER: St Hildas and Jamia Muhammadiyah Nooriyah
St Hilda’s Church and Jamia Muhammadiyah Nooriyah (Gibraltar Road Mosque) deserve this award for the annual clean up that they carry out in the Park Ward. The two organisations work in close partnership with the Calderdale Council who provide litter picks and a skip. The project involves both adults and children from both organisations and local residents are encouraged to take part and help. Other organisations involved include the local scouts, women’s groups, and other local faith groups from the ward.
The litter pick starts from Parkinson Lane all the way up to the Barracks.
They not only clean up the streets but promote good citizenship, community pride and show in unison what can be done when neighbours get together.
This annual clean up makes the ward a safer, cleaner and greener place to live not only in a visual sense that the streets are cleaner, it shows others that working cross communities makes the ward safer and cleaning on the green spaces makes it look a whole lot greener.
These two organisations are a shining example to others that partnership working with the local council, faith groups and community groups within the ward works and works well. They should be recognised for the organisation and planning that goes into the coordination of the clean up and all that it achieves throughout the ward.
