Yesterday we celebrated International Women’s day at Queen’s Road Neighbourhood Centre. With the help of our local Surestart Children’s Centre and the Calderdale Staying Well Project, we hosted over 150 residents!
A variety of public and community s3ector services joined us including the Police, Fire Service, Calderdale Interfaith, Healthy Minds, Stroke Association, Calderdale College, CMBC’s Electoral Services and Waste recycling team, the Better Living Team and Surestart Breast feeding support team.
Beauty treatments were supplied by trainees from Calderdale College providing free massages and manicures. Mendhi was done by a very talented local resident.
Roison Cavanagh hosted a workshop with women from various communities in Calderdale to ask about their experiences, wants needs and feelings with a lady from Mixenden saying,
” This is fantastic I would never usually come into this area or ever get the chance to speak to someone from the south Asian community, I hope there will be more chances!”
Local Park Ward Councillor Jenny Lynn, presented our free raffle with prizes gifted from local businesses , including a beauty hamper, free gym memberships, a bouquet of flowers and what every woman wants…a screwdriver set!
We would like to thank the Calderdale Council Choir for a special appearance, they very aptly sang us “Nanna was a Suffrogette” and were fantastic!
This years theme for International Women’s Day was #BeBoldForChange and we think our local ladies really took this message in and showcased how bold we can be and together make a difference!
