Recovery in the Community: Volunteer Project

Wednesday 15 May, 1.00pm at Salvation Army, Pellon Lane, Halifax

Recovery in the Community is a new scheme that’s being developed focusing on developing community areas through volunteering. Whether you want to volunteer, give advice, or have an idea for a community project that you think would improve the local environment, we would like to hear from you. Why not come along to the open meeting and have your say or for more information contact Danny Metcalfe 07547016128.

The idea for this volunteer scheme came from Peter Higgins who is recovering from drugs and alcohol abuse. Whilst in recovery, Peter was given the opportunity to volunteer at various community organisations, he found this volunteering a valuable tool in allowing him to overcome issues and give back to the community in which he lives. Throughout his recovery he has attended various meetings and listened guest speakers with good ideas. He met a gentleman from the U.S who has piloted and developed a similar scheme in the states which is now nationwide; this ignited the idea for Peter and encouraged him to make positive steps to make it happen in his community.

Our Mission Statement

The aim of this scheme is to allow individuals from all backgrounds the opportunity to volunteer in their community and take positive action to improve their environment. Bringing local communities together by promoting community spirit, encouraging community action, developing community relationships, will allow us to make positive steps to improve the living environment for our communities.
