Calderdale Council are creating a new service within the Community Safety and Resilience Team designed to provide a 24hour Wardens Service to benefit the residents of Calderdale.  This team will have responsibility to deliver CCTV monitoring, provide visible patrols across Calderdale and facilitate the Council’s out of hours emergency response to critical incidents such as flooding or increased community tension.

Halifax Minster Summer Festival – 29th June to 9th July 2017

Halifax Minster Summer Festival is held on the following dates:

Thursday 29th June – 10th September
The Minster will be open to the public from 10am – 4pm on a daily basis throughout the summer (unless a special event or service is taking place) providing the talented young people from Trinity Academy with a public space to show their pieces of visual art.

This candlelit tour of Halifax Minster allows visitors to meet those living history characters who have helped shape the town and its Minster. The tour is accompanied by music from different eras, including the plainsong of Compline or Night Prayer, from the monastic Benedictine tradition which founded the church in the 12th century.

Minster Choir perform some of their exciting new repertoire, both sacred and popular, accompanied by both piano and organ, in preparation for their tour of Germany at the end of the Summer.

Australian born Greg Abrahams has previously performed in Westminster Cathedral and twice at Westminster Abbey.

This exciting evening of music brings together a wide variety of musicians and styles. From the close harmony of barbershop group ‘A Close shave’ to individual performances of ‘Future Heroes’, this evening will be rounded off with the harmonies of Melody Belles.

The Suitcase Dwellers are a modern acoustic duo from Yorkshire, with Lizzey on vocals and piano and Sam playing guitar, bass, tambourine and bass drum. From delicate songs of loss, waltzes of betrayal, folky blues-tinged songs of love and discovery, classical flourishes and surprises and foot stomping songs of fun and anger, they throw a few covers in with their own twist too. Joining Lizzey and Sam are Unity Voices Choir from Marsden in Huddersfield.

This event is open to everyone who would relish the opportunity to sing a traditional

Book of Common Prayer Evensong in the unique setting of Halifax Minster. The programme will include Charles Stanford ‘Canticles in C’ and Charles Wesley’s famous anthem ‘Blessed be the God and Father’. All are welcome to come and join the Minster Choir at this final Festival event for 2017.

Bankfield Buddies! Craft activities for under fives, tomorrow at 10.30am…

Come along to Bankfield Museum and join in our craft activities for under-fives. In this relaxed, friendly environment children can play, enjoy a story and learn more about the fascinating objects on display.

Meet in Akroyd Library in the Museum.

Free parking and ramped push chair access at the back of the Museum. Sessions run from 10.30am-11.15am. £2.00 per child. Booking is not required, please pay on the day. Hot and cold drinks available to buy from reception.
