The Halifax Central Initiative Summer Football League returned this year after a 2 year break due to Covid-19.
The free 5 week football league was held at the Inspire Centre at Calderdale college and an open invite was sent to all children in the Central Halifax area between the ages of 7 and 16 to come and join in the fun on Wednesday afternoons during the Summer holidays.
This year the event was supported by the Council’s Play Development Services and staff from Himmat whose presence on the football pitch was greatly appreciated, Healthy Holidays very kindly provided sandwiches and fruit for the children, every session was well attended with up to 100 children each week.
The final tournament took place on 24 August, with a knock-out competition and trophies handed out to winners and runners up and all the children who took part received a medal for their achievement. We would like to thank local NPT officers and Councillors Jenny Lynn and Faisal Shoukat for attending the final session and presenting the trophies.
Many parents said they wished this happened more often, and to quote the children “it’s been brilliant”.
