Speed Watch Deployment

Community Wardens Zameer Akhtar and Jonny Cato from Halifax Central Initiative, took part in a speed check operation in Sowerby Bridge this week after concerns were raised by local residents about the speed of vehicles driving through the Pye Nest area. Using a speed gun, the Community Wardens recorded the speed of over 200 vehicles. Pictured with Jonny is local resident Mr Nigel Pickles who was pleased to see action being taken, and their concerns listened to. Speeding cars are a borough wide problem and our Speed watchwardens are happy to carry out checks where needed. The recorded information will be passed on and fed into Road Safety Initiatives run by the Council and Police. The results from the monitoring showed 85% of drivers to be travelling at an average speed of 31mph in the 30mph zone, the average excess speed was recorded at 37mph.
