Park Ward Heritage Festival: Activities taking place next week

A new project celebrating the wonderful heritage we have in Park ward, West cenheritagfronttral Halifax:

Tuesday 25 October

Park Heritage Tour: Meet at Lister Lane Cemetery, Halifax HX1 5LF. Tour starts at 2pm

A guided tour by David Glover, around Park ward to discover some of its historical landmarks, including Lister Lane Cemetery, Madni Masjid and Peoples Park.

Wednesday 26 October

Views from Wainhouse Tower: Adults £2.50, Children £2, Family £8

Tours from 10am to 1pm: The 253 ft Wainhouse Tower was originally commissioned as a chimney for the local dye works by John Edward Wainhouse in the late 19th century. The structure was never actually used as a working chimney and as such, is regarded by many as one of Britain’s finest follies. An opportunity to see Park Ward and further afield from a great Height . N.B. Please wear suitable footwear. There are 403 steps to the top of the tower.

Friday 28 October

Voices From The Past: West   Central Halifax 1940-1979

King Cross Library, starts at 2pm with doors open at 1.30pm.Running time 36 minutes. Free. Stories from local residents who describe life in Park ward from 1940s to 1970s.
