Bankfield Museum, Halifax, HX3 6HG, Saturday 11May from 1.00pm – 4.00pm
There are many projects and events happening in Calderdale to mark 100 years since the Great War. Known to us now as the First World War it affected the lives of everyone and continues to affect us today.
This event is an opportunity for anyone interested in marking the occasion to find out what is happening and for those planning projects to let everyone else know.
Calderdale Museums have been awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the creation of a Great War Gallery at Bankfield. Due to open in Summer 2014 this gallery will hold exhibitions relating to the part Calderdale played in the Great War and the effect the war had on the area and its people. This project will be explained in more detail and there will be information on several other projects happening in the Borough around the coming centenary of the war.
We will have items from our collections for you to view and handle. This is not just about the military but about the far-reaching effect on all corners of our society.
Entrance free. For further information please contact: 01422 354823 or Richard.Macfarlane@calderdale.gov.uk
