The Halifax Boys’ Brigade provides Children and Young People between the ages of 5 and 18 a wide range of fun and exciting activities in a safe and caring environment.

There are 12 different companies spread out all over Calderdale who meet on different week nights. There are 3 different sections for children of different ages and each section has its own activities planned.

The age groups are split as follows.

• Anchors (School years 1, 2, 3)
• Juniors (School years 4, 5, 6)
• Company (School years 7 and above).

The Brigade has started a National Campaign to increase the membership of the Boys’ Brigade by 10%. Last year we saw an increase of almost 30% of our previous membership and our aim is to have 500 members by 2015.

Being a member of the Boys’ Brigade has lots of benefits for Children and Young People of any age. If you are young and like to play games, join in with different activities and like to go away on camps and trips while making new friends, there’s always something happening in Boys’ Brigade that makes it such an Adventure!

The Boys’ Brigade is a Christian Uniformed Youth Organisation but you don’t have to be a Christian to join, just be prepared to listen to what is said and decide for yourself what you want to believe. The uniforms can be bought at your local BB Company – they will have to be ordered in so some times they can take a while but don’t worry.

For our older members we are keen on helping them develop their skills particularly their leadership Skills. In September the Halifax Boys’ Brigade will be taking almost 50 Young Men away for the Weekend to the Training Centre in the North West for a Leadership Training Weekend. A lot of the members on this course will be working towards their Queens Badge. This is the highest Award that any member can gain in the Boys’ Brigade and to do so they have to do a lot of hard work.

All the hard work is worth while and supporting the Young Men is something that we are really good at, ensuring that the level of support is there to help them achieve.

Each Company also charges a different amount of subs each week. It can range from £1 to £2 a week. We try our best to keep the cost as little as possible to ensure that we are not putting any barriers in place that would prevent a member coming!

It’s easy to join the Boys’ Brigade – just come along and visit one of our Companies, it helps if you can contact them before hand to warn them that you are coming along, but it won’t matter if you can’t.
