A main priority for Calderdale Council is reducing the number of people injured on Calderdale’s roads each year. Although the overall number of pedestrians injured on
Calderdale’s roads has fallen, the number of children suffering the most serious injuries has remained higher than any of us would like to see. We have also seen no reduction in the number of people aged 60 plus who suffer life threatening and fatal injuries as pedestrians.
To measure the effect of a 20mph speed limit in residential and school communities, Calderdale Council is proposing to introduce a 20mph speed limit in Boothtown / Claremount.
They have evaluated all road casualties over the last five years to help us rank those areas that may benefit from the proposed scheme. the evaluation has identified Boothtown / Claremount as being one that should benefit from these proposals.
To alert drivers of their entry into the 20mph speed limit area there will be a 20mph traffic sign installed on both sides of the street. These signs will be repeated at regular intervals. On entering the 20mph speed limit there will also be 20mph markings painted on the road to remind people of the lower speed limits.
