Winter Wise: Boost your immunity
There are two essential vaccines that you may need this winter: flu and the COVID-19 booster. Vaccines are the best way to protect yourself, friends, and family from these dangerous viruses. Find out more here: #WinterWise
For advice on choosing the right NHS service for you visit Look out for your Winter Wise booklet with lots of useful advice on how to prepare for the colder months. It should now be landing on your doorstep this week if you live in Calderdale – if you don’t you can access the digital version here or pick up a booklet in your local library.
Vitamin D is really important for bone health. Over the summer most people get enough vitamin, but in winter eating foods that contain Vitamin D as part of a healthy balanced diet can help. These include oily fish, liver, cheese, milk and butter.  Adults and children over the age of 1 should consider also topping up with Vitamin D supplements.
You can find out more on our cost of living support page and there’s lots more advice for winter on our Winter Wise page.

St Augustine’s Christmas Appeal 2022

People seeking sanctuary in Calderdale need your help this winter.

This year we have been reminded how people’s lives can be turned upside down overnight, forcing them to flee their homes in search of safety. The cost of living crisis and the hostile environment have only compounded fear and anxiety for people fleeing war and persecution. We want to ensure that the individuals and families we support don’t have to face an isolated and bleak Christmas, and you can help make that a reality.

Show refugees in Calderdale that you care – visit our website to find out how you can help.

West Yorkshire Prepared

The Community Grant Initiative provides communities across West Yorkshire with funding for projects, which help to boost emergency resilience and preparedness in the region.

Whether for flood prevention and protection, essential communication devices or emergency response equipment, our aim is to enable more to be done at a local level before, during and after an emergency incident by providing small, one-off grants where communities need it most.

We will be awarding amounts of up to £5000 to community groups and voluntary organisations for small community initiatives and projects, which will provide a direct benefit to local communities.

This initiative is open to all, but we would particularly welcome applications from community and voluntary groups working in more deprived communities and/or areas in which there are clear and present risks.

For full details on the entry criteria, or to download an application form, visit The closing date for applications is 31st December 2022.
