Hello!  Here is a quick update of some of the latest opportunities in Park and Warley that you might be interested in.

Ramadan Food-Box 2022 flyer attached

Home-delivered Iftar meals for those in need. For the last 3 consecutive years, Halifax Community Fridge has worked with Sheesh Mahal Halifax to ensure no one goes to sleep hungry in Ramadan.
This year is no different, if you know anyone in Calderdale who has nothing to open their fast with, please get in touch with us. Details on attached flyer.

This weekend!  Anne Lister Birthday – Victorian Artisan Market  2nd – 4th April  flyer attached

Throughout the festival Shibden Hall will be open daily, pay them a visit and see the fantastic new look, you can book your tickets here https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/…/shibden-hall-april…

There will also be a special Anne Lister’s Birthday Weekend Victorian Artisan Market, with over 20 stalls and performances from Brighouse Theatre Productions.

Jane Austin Watercolour will be at work throughout the festival and can be found in and around the grounds of the Hall, so be sure to stop and have a chat if you see her.

  • International Women’s Day – In March loads of activities and events took place with local women at St Columba’s Church Hall, the Women’s Activity Centre, Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre, People’s Park and Calderdale College.
  • Local History tour – read about Walking in the Footsteps of the Halifax Suffragettes
  • Community action to clean up Pellon – How Together Pellon (Pimp My Pellon) are working hard to improve the local area for the benefit of the local area, people and wildlife.
  • Project Social – Hear about Newground Together’s recent social media workshops to help young people improve their employability.
  • Solidarity and support for the people of Ukraine, and Calderdale’s Valley of Sanctuary

  • The Big Spring Clean – 2 litter picking events planned for April in Park and Warley.
  • Beekeeping – community project at The Outback
  • Support to help you towards employment – thre are people on your doorstep who can support you free of charge with all aspects of job searching, finding training, and support once you have found employment. 
  • Working in Schools – a training course starting 28th April
  • Support to start your own business and becoming a Market Trader
  • West Yorkshire Mayor, Tracy Brabin’s Consultation – What are the standards we expect for good work in our region?

‘Speak Their Name’ and support the Yorkshire suicide memorial quilt project Flyer attached!

Recovery and Wellbeing Colleges in Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield are joining forces to support the Yorkshire ‘Speak Their Name’ suicide memorial quilt project.

The Recovery and Wellbeing Colleges are hosting sessions to share more information about the project and how people across Yorkshire can get involved.

Introductory project sessions will be held online on 4 April and in person in Mirfield on 24 April and Halifax on 28 April. Anyone affected by suicide is welcome to join and you can visit our website to book your place at a session: www.calderdalekirkleesrc.nhs.uk.

Want to boost your career, develop your knowledge and skills, or try something new?

This summer term, you can study for an entry level to level 2 qualification through one of Calderdale Adult Learning’s fully funded courses, which include Digital/IT skills, ESOL and Mental Wellbeing, without having to pay a course fee.

Proposed Parliamentary Boundary Changes
The Boundary Commission for England is currently on the second stage of consultation on proposed changed to Parliamentary Constituency boundaries in England. You can look at the proposals and submit your feedback online by visiting www.bcereviews.org.uk. The consultation is open until 4 April 2022.
