Let’s not make this the Most Wasteful Time of the Year

As the festive season is well underway, we would like to urge you to be mindful of waste and consider the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. And maybe Rudolph 🙂

As we are all in the Christmas season rush to get everything ready for the big day, it is more important than ever to be mindful of the waste this spree is producing.

There will be cards, wrapping paper, packaging made of plastic or cardboard. Most of this can be recycled. In fact most of the day to day household waste is recyclable.

Calderdale Council runs weekly collections of household waste that can be recycled where you can dispose of glass, plastic, metal and card or paper as well as several other items such as fabrics, small electricals and food waste.

Your local Household Waste Recycling Centre can take bulkier items.
Calderdale Council’s bulky waste recycling is still a little backed up, bear with us.

For more information about recycling and other handy tips visit http://www.calderdale.gov.uk/environment/waste/recycling.

Even the Christmas Tree can be recycled. Overgate run a Treecycling programme that for a small donation of £10 will collect your tree at the end of the season.

This service covers certain Halifax Postcodes so check with Overgate. The page has other recycling options for you to choose from.

For more information on the Overgate Treecycling Campaign please contact the Fundraising Team on 01422 387121 or email fundraising@overgatehospice.nhs.uk

The office of national statistics has concluded that 3 out of 4 adults in the UK are concerned about climate change and they are more likely to change their habits in order to take action. Recycling is one of the easiest actions that can be taken to reduce our negative impact on the Planet.

Three-quarters of adults in Great Britain worry about climate change – Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk)

So let’s all do our bit and keep green, before and after Christmas!
