THE PEACE MUSEUM in Bradford are running a single session 1 hour online workshop themed – Propaganda: Past & Present

Propaganda: Past & Present is a workshop which ultimately explores how extremist narratives take root. Using examples from history, the session examines how the conditions of a community give rise to fears and frustrations, and how this has been seized upon by extremist groups to manipulate people.

The session encompass a range of techniques used by those who seek to use propaganda to push extremist narratives – how it focuses in on highly emotive subjects, spreads misinformation or hugely biased information in an attempt to draw a line between two ‘opposing’ points of view and discredit one or the other.

Propaganda: Past & Present will look at real life examples from history, including the rise of the fascist movement in the 1930’s. This will be complemented by a discussion around modern propaganda, especially the rise of far right narratives and movements such as QAnon and the Proud Boys, how this is spread, and how we can be resilient to manipulation and seek to make balanced decisions about the world around us.

The workshops use methods that make these issues meaningful for young people and provide a safe space to explore them. Our experience in this realm of work, allows us to broach often difficult subjects and make them accessible and safe for participants.

The feedback from the people who have engaged with the sessions is overwhelmingly positive, and all concerned said that they would recommend the projects to others.
