The Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team visited the Boothtown Boys’ Brigade on Wednesday 13th February at Boothtown Methodist Church. The lads were joined by 3 members of the CVSR Team and Meg, the Search and Rescue Dog. The Halifax Boys’ Brigade decided back in August 2012 that the Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team would be the next Appeal Charity that the Battalion would support. The Boothtown BB decided that before the lads start to do any kind of fundraising that the lads should find out a bit about the team and invited them to come along. The team explained about the kinds of things that they do to help people who get stuck or have accidents and showed the lads all the sorts of equipment that helps them do their job.
The best part of the night was when the lads got to see the Vehicle the team had brought along. ‘Sarah’ named after the Sarah Royle Trust is the Teams newest vehicle.
Boothtown BB Officer Robert Batty said that it was great for the lads to see who they are fundraising for. After the lads saw the Teams Landrover they went back inside into the warmth to eat their pancakes before taking a special pack of Smarties home. These Smarties are to be eaten and then the lads will have to fill the tubes with any spare coins they can find at home and bring them back just before Easter. All the money raised from this will go towards the Halifax BB Appeal.
