Muslims across the world will be celebrating Eid-ul-Adha on Friday, 26 October 2012,
this significant festival commemorates Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to a command from God and Ismael’s acceptance of this command. Muslims remind themselves of their own willingness to sacrifice an animal i.e. sheep to follow God’s command, it also marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia that is the fifth pillar in Islam. Many Muslims will start the day by visiting the Mosque for Eid prayers in their best clothes, worshippers will be thanking Allah for all the blessings they have received. It will also be a time for families and friends to come together and celebrate the day with sharing food and presents. For further information please visit www.bbc.co.uk/religion.uk
