On Sunday 14 October the Halifax BB will be marching through the streets of Halifax before celebrating 129 years of the Boys’ Brigade in the UK. The Boys’ Brigade is the worlds first Uniformed Christian Youth Organisation that was founded by William A Smith in 1883 to provide a service for Young Men where they could develop themselves as decent members of their community.
In Halifax the first Boys’ Brigade Company dates back to 1899 and since then it has helped thousands of Children and Young People to live better lives and grow into positive members of their community.
This Sunday there will be a lot of important presentations made. First of all there are the Presidents and Queens Badges for the Lads who have worked hard to gain them. Both Awards are the highest Badges that you can gain in the BB and to do so, you have to put in a lot of hard work. The lads that are getting these awards will have put in over 100 hours of different types of Volunteering and showing a great deal of commitment.
The Battalion will also present the Cheque to the Overgate Hospice which was announced as the Halifax BB Appeal for the last session. The appeal has been one of the best so far raising over £3000 for the charity.
The Battalion will also receive a Cheque from the Cooperative Community Fund which has kindly decided to support the work that the Halifax Boys’ Brigade does with Children and Young People in Halifax.
Alex Brownridge who is the Company and Senior Section Chair said ‘it is great that we can get support like this. In the Company and Senior Sections we offer a wide variety of different activities such as the Volley Ball Competition last Friday and the Basket Ball Competition that is coming up in November. Not to mention the Leadership Weekend back in September where over 50 Young Lads went to learn and develop their Leadership Skills. Without financial support from people such as the Cooperative we would really struggle and we are really grateful for their support!’
The Founders Day Parade will set of from St James Car Park in Halifax Town Centre and make it’s way through to Carlton URC on Harrison road being led by the Halifax BBGB Band. Robert Batty, an Officer at the Boothtown BB said ‘We would like to encourage as many of you as possible to come down and see the parade pass through Halifax and show your support not only to the Children and Young People but to the Officers who take out so much time to plan and prepare so many different opportunities for the lads.
