Summer Reading Challenge

With 780,000 children aged 4-11 taking part across the UK, the Story Lab Summer Reading Challenge is the biggest national reading initiative.

It runs in libraries throughout the summer holidays, with incentives, activities and events designed to create a real buzz around children’s reading.

The challenge is simple and FREE – to read six or more library books over the summer.

Story Lab runs from Saturday 14th July until Saturday 1st September in all 22 libraries in Calderdale. The challenge is for children aged 5-12 but younger/older children can take part in the challenge if they wish – provided they are a member of Calderdale Libraries.

Children can choose any books they want and for every two books they read they will receive some scratch and sniff stickers.

When they have completed the challenge they will receive a certificate and a sticky splatter (a really disgusting slimy sticky toy).

Every child who completes the challenge will be invited to the Victoria Theatre in Halifax for a free author event, where they will be presented with a medal (the event will take place during October).
