Over 150 members of the Halifax Boys’ Brigade on Saturday 26th May came together at Manor Heath Park to have ago at their own ‘BB Olympics’. The event featured over 150 members of all ages from 5 to 18 all taking part in a number of activities.
The Youngest members – the Anchors took part in loads of fun and games from team races to obstacle courses. The 8 – 11 year olds took part in the Junior Section ‘Sports’ Competition with the winning Company being the 20th Halifax BB who are based at Salem Methodist Church.
The older lads had ago at something that the Boys’ Brigade has never done before in Halifax and that was Sumo Wrestling and Human Table Football. The Sumo Wrestling was an idea that the Officers has picked up from the Leeds Boys’ Brigade and 2 padded ‘Sumo’ suits were hired along with the ‘Human Table Football’. The Boys’ Brigade also hired an inflatable obstacle course where the lads had to carry buckets of water through the course without spilling a drop. It’s safe to say that all the lads that took part had a really good day – and went home covered in water.
Through the day a dad of one of the Boothtown Boys’ Brigade lads was talking about his childhood when he was in the Brigade. He talked about playing Cricket against other companies on the moor, going away with other lads on Camps and he also said that he recognised some of the older Officers who were helping out throughout the day.
The next Big event for the Halifax Boys’ Brigade will be the Halifax Diamond Jubilee Gala on Saturday 9th June. The Band will be parading and in the BB Marquee there will be refreshments on sale along with some games for people to have ago at. The money raised from this will go towards the Halifax BB Appeal which is just under £2000.
