Rushbearing dates back several centuries to a time when rushes were simply a floor covering in churches.
Each year, it was out with the old and in with the new. Over many years this tradition has gradually turned into a celebration and a holiday involving music, Morris dancing and revelry.
There are many ways to be part of the festival. Do not be one of the missing ingredients!

FRI 25 – SUN 27 MARCH 2016 , VICTORIA THEATRE, HALIFAX
Join us for a lively, lyrical adventure in Michael Rosen’s award-winning We’re Going on a Bear Hunt at the Victoria theatre for 3 days only from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 March.
Direct from a smash-hit West End season and international run, this fun-filled adaptation of Michael Rosen’s much-loved story is vividly and noisily brought to life on stage with catchy songs, interactive scenes and plenty of hands-on adventure!
Under Sally Cookson’s inventive direction and Benji Bower’s quirky, versatile score, the story follows a family’s excitement as they wade, splash and squelch through a variety of imaginative environments in search of a bear.
Cookson describes the production as a “celebration of play”, deciding with set designer Katie Sykes that the show should utilise a host of everyday objects and materials in order to draw young audiences into a thrilling, imaginary world.
Full of rhythm, repetition and onomatopoeia, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt has been praised for its ability to engage and entertain young children of all learning abilities.
