Faith Education Volunteers needed to work with Halifax Minster and Calderdale Inter-faith Council

This is an exciting opportunity for those who enjoy working with children and wish to help children in Calderdale understand the world of faith.  We are looking for volunteers who are willing to share aspects of their faith (any world faith) with school children visiting Halifax Minster as part of an inter-faith visit.  Volunteers will be given full support and training.  Volunteers must be over 16.  The usual checks will be required and volunteers will never be left alone with a group of children.  Visits are run Monday to Wednesday (mainly in mornings), average volunteer time is 6 hrs a month.   If interested please contact us for an application form: or telephone 01422 355 436 and speak to Gillian.

What’s on your doorstep? Local help for local people…

What’s on your Doorstep? is a free event on Saturday 10 March organised by Voluntary Action Calderdale. Local Voluntary & Community Organisations will be there throughout the day so you can pop in to Halifax Central Library anytime between 11am—3pm and find out what services they offer and how they can help you. With a wide range of services available covering: Respite Care , Counselling, Family Support, Activities and Support for people with disabilities , Peer Support for Independent Living, Addiction Recovery ,Healthy Living, Day Services, Older People’s Support, Debt Advice There’ll also be the chance to try out some of the activities and services offered including massage and arts & crafts! Hearing Loop available, wheelchair accessible venue with free disabled parking at Northgate Car Park and a British Sign Language Interpreter will be available on the day. Are you part of a local community group and need to raise some funds?

Community Foundation for Calderdale are offering support sessions for groups to join and you just need to email us to find out more. Having your group on gives you a webpage that you can easily update, where you can ask for volunteers, and importantly ask for donations towards your project. is specially designed for community groups – including Scouts and Guides, PTA’s, Cricket or Football, Community Associations or Faith based community groups. It allows you to collect donations from people online, and you can get the Gift Aid even if you are not a registered charity. The support you can get locally includes training, one to one support and peer group learning, and we run promotions such as Match Funds or publicity opportunities. Waterway Clean-up, Mearclough, Sowerby Bridge

Sunday 26th February Sowerby Bridge canal volunteers will be working with British Waterways and Calder Future this Sunday to undertake a Big Spring Clean-up of the canal and riverside at Mearclough Bridge (near the Waste Disposal site). Volunteers will be working to clear the litter and overgrown vegetation which currently blights this popular spot. All welcome – especially students, on the final day of national Student Volunteering Week. Tools provided. Meet on the towpath, Mearclough Bridge, 10am in old clothes and sturdy footwear. Bring lunch if wishing to stay for afternoon. Further details if required from
