International Women’s Day at Calderdale Adult Education
Calderdale Adult Education are offering women only classes next week to support International Women’s Day:
- Monday 7 March, 10 – 12 – Get confident using IT for life and work
- Monday 7 March, 1 – 3 – Find the best deals – use maths to look for bargains, save money and budget.
- Tuesday 8 March, 10 – 12 – Mental Wellbeing
- Tuesday 8 March, 1 – 3 – Learn to express yourself through creative writing
- Friday 11 March, 10 – 12 – Get creative and relax making bead jewellery.

Join North Halifax Partnership this year for a women only event to celebrate International Women’s Day on Monday 7th March, 10am – 2pm at Forest Cottage, Cousin Lane, Ovenden, HX2 8AD
A FREE full day of Fun packed activities including a market place with information on issues that might affect women, Arts & Crafts, local Inspirational women speakers and a fun packed boot camp plus muck more!

Suffragette Walk – In the footsteps of Halifax Suffragettes – 8 Mar (flyer attached)
Tuesday 8 March, 11am.
To celebrate International Women’s Day join Halifax Central Initiative and others on this heritage walk about the fascinating history of the Halifax Suffragette movement.

International Women’s Day at the Outback – 9 Mar
We welcome all women to our Outback community garden on Wed 9th March.
The Outback is a unique community kitchen and garden based in the heart of the Park Ward community, directly behind Jubilee Children’s Centre. The 1 hectare site runs on organic and sustainable principles and the thriving garden is packed full of herbs, fruit and veg. There are lots of interesting areas for local people to explore and learn more about the natural environment whilst the straw bale kitchen provides a perfect space for the local community to gather and cook food.
Please come and see the garden as it prepares for a new growing season & meet our resident Bees!
Our community kitchen will be set up with info about Bees, encouraging more women to become Bee keepers and to sign-up for our 15th March Bee keeping course.
We will also be providing a simple ‘can do’ windowsill growing demonstration and what to do with edible items you’ve grown.
Please join us from 10am to 12pm and help us celebrate women’s roles in campaigning for a sustainable future.

Parent webinars – county lines and criminal exploitation
Starting on the 2nd March through to the 19th March PACE UK are running parent webinars on County lines for parents and carers.
Join this interactive webinar where parents and carers can learn from a panel of experts what criminal exploitation is, how to spot signs it may be happening their child and how to seek help.
The sessions which are FREE come in two parts. The first an introduction for parents on what criminal exploitation is with a specific focus on county lines. The second session runs the following week and this is through the child’s eyes.

Prevent training – Contextual Safeguarding: Addressing Gangs, Extremism & Youth Violence
These Interactive training sessions on 10th March are aimed at frontline staff, working with young people in the education and community sector.
The sessions aim to provide participants with:
- An understanding of how and why gangs target young people for recruitment, exploitation, and violence.
- An overview of the Contextual Safeguarding (CS) model.
- An update on serious youth violence in their area using local case studies.
- Tools with which to practically implement contextual safeguarding principles.

Halifax Opportunities Trust is excited to launch this new Hopeful Families project. A weekly supported group for young adults with learning difficulties & disabilities to come along, create & maintain a small wildlife garden, grow fruit & vegetables, learn new skills and meet new people.
We will be incorporating employability skills like team work, effective communication and confidence building too…..

Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities
Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities is an evidence-based parent course for parents, who have children aged 3+ to take part in the research.
All parents can earn up to £40 in vouchers for completing all the questionnaires. A creche is available but there are limited spaces so it will be first come first served.

A Tax-Free Childcare webinar for local authority/council officers, partners, and family-facing professionals. 15 March, 10.00 – 11.30am.
You are invited if you are a health visitor, social worker, housing officer, or work in children’s centres, early help, job centres, schools, or if you are someone else who works with families across the public, private and voluntary sectors.
The webinar is designed to share up-to-date information and to raise awareness of Tax-Free Childcare (TFC) and increase understanding of it. We will be providing a useful overview of TFC and how it could better benefit children and families. We also want to help and equip attendees with ideas and tools that can motivate parents to sign up and use TFC to pay for childcare, out of school and holiday activities. Park Ward Neighbourhood Plan Consultation
Park Ward Neighbourhood Forum has submitted a draft Neighbourhood Development Plan. This sets out a vision for the future of the area and planning policies. This will form part of the development plan used to determine planning applications locally. We invite comments on the plan and supporting documents.
